I f i remember corrertly there is a quest in with you have to blackmail the stewart of Markarth with a Amulet Of Talos, by stealing one from his cupboard for the Stormcloaks, hence way all the amulets are considered essential items. If you just pick it up after the execution, it won't start the quest for you with a Journal entry, nor a Marker, so you have to track her down yourself
