As I could not access drives via Windows methods, and all I needed was a couple of settings from my drives, I used my 8.10 ubuntu live cd hoping that I would be able to reach my drives and copy them over to my nas. People are having issues with the GPT format because they don't know how to troubleshoot and since I can not have their PC in front of me I can't troubleshoot for them either. As I mentioned before, the MSR partition is only used by the OS for certain disk intensive operations, or dynamic disks etc.., so again the alignment (offset) is not important

trying to downgrade to XP my laptop (COMPAQ Presario V6000) that came with Vista Home Premium, I was reading your guide, it was cool, but I Kept looking for more info, and read another source even easier, I just had to go into my Bios and DISABLED the NATIVE SATA CONTROL which was ENABLED and thats all I had to do, my system would detect the Hard drive right away. I figured the whole point of booting from a USB drive was to avoid having to burn a disc with the Windows 7 files on it, or install on a PC without a DVD drive. It perfectly works with fat32 and btw convert.exe is missing from some windows xp installations (it was missing from mine xpsp3).Also guys select USB-ZIP instead of USB-HDD during the boot

In this particular case the following steps may work (links might become invalid, ...): Download this and unpack it, Copy the folder "Driver" to the USB memory, Once asked for the driver files, select the folder "Driver" or the file "asmthub3.inf" inside it. Also, forget where I found this tidbit "it was the SATA drivers for the MoBo" "On another PC (obviously), I downloaded the latest Win7 drivers for my motherboard and put them on the USB stick that I was installing Win7 from (although this should probably work even if you install from DVD, just as long as you can get to them when you Browse from the error dialog)

Then i installed Intel chipset drivers and Intel WiFi chip driver (so i could connect to the net and check for further drivers updates on windows update - it had none). Both are Windows 7 Professional 64-bit English and both are downloaded from MSDNAA, but mine was downloaded few days ago and his 15th august or so (just when it got released)
