Wealthy locals with accounts abroad have connections to travel agencies that will cash their personal checks, just because they are good customers or something (and charge a substantial fee, of course)

Look down on Guanabara Bay, the Rio-Niteroi Bridge, the white swath of Copacabana, the Fortaleza de Santa Cruz, and the towering statue of Christ the Redeemer atop Corcovado Mountain before you descend back into town. This enormous white statue keeps constant watch over Rio, offering sweeping 360-degree views of the city's natural wonders: beaches, lagoons, forests, bays, and mountains that seem to rise from the ocean

Unless you have a specific purpose or a local friend whom you trust to show you around, we suggest you stay on the South Side or Centro of Rio, and other areas specifically recommend by our guide. Don't take off your watch and leave it laying on the sand behind your back while you are sitting on the sand distracted by the girls or boys that pass by (we've seen saw someone do this...) EXTRA CAUTIONS THAT MAKE SENSE Do not take regular buses alone, and if you do avoid the window seat

If you're lucky you'll see these little monkeys there." Urca "best view ever" "go on a sunny day, the view is the most important thing, avoid cloudy day. Its unconventional architecture and the huge glass panels will impress you." Copacabana Beach "surprisingly sportif!" "It was a surprise to see all these people playing with a ball the whole day! It was like a sight seeing to us! The beach is surely amazing, deep turquase water and white sand! The kiosks serving real cachasa were super!" Free Walking Tours "Great tour!" "Great experience and good way to discover parts of Rio! We did the Center of Rio one and also the Copacabana and Ipanema

Getting Around Rio de Janeiro - info to help you travel around the city...

Tourists who rent a car for getting around Rio from the airport, usually first head outside the city to such destinations as Buzios, Paraty, or Ilha Grande. Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) can be expensive in Brazil as it is in the USA, so it's a good idea to check with your one of your credit card companies to determine if using that credit card to rent a car will automatically provide you with the coverage

Unfortunately, these tour companies waste a lot of time picking up and dropping off people at various hotels, so the OP would probably have more time to see the sights if she travelled on her own. Is it possible to take a taxi directly to Sugar Loaf or Christ the Redeemer? How long would the taxi ride take? How much would it cost? I will be packing very light, small back pack

in length and 45 stations, BRT have in their wagons placeholder for the placement of travel bags.As in Paris and London should avoid traveling at peak times. if you're going to Ipanema, and the bus has that on their list of destinations posted on the windshield then you need to ask the driver if it makes a stop there

Do keep in mind that some online companies are not based in Rio and will therefore subcontract work to others, which may or may not affect the quality and safety of the transport arrangment. For those travelling to Rio for Carnival it's worth using a company that allows you to book and pay in advance, and to try and pay as much in advance as possible as prices tend to increase a few weeks before Carnival. Radio Taxis, such as Rio Airport Transfer and others are usually the blue, green, or white taxis and they do cost a little more than the typical yellow taxi

These companies have nicer cars with air-con, alloys, often tinted windows etc and if you pre-book through a site like Rio Airport Transfer then they'll generally meet you after you've collected your luggage at the airport ands show you to your car. They provided the usual good service from the airport, which is much better than a regular Rio de Janeiro taxi I might add, and the following day I was met by an English speaking driver by the name of Alberto who spent the following 2 days transporting me around the city

Rio de Janeiro Airport Transfer - taxi, shuttle , renting a car, or by bus

To use a city map, you will need a navigator in the front passenger seat! It's easier to leave the city directly from the airport than to drive down to Ipanema or Copacabana. It's best to write the name and address down ahead of time for the driver, "Me deixa no hotel o na esquina da Rua XXXX com XXXX or favor? ("Please drop off at the hotel, or at the corner of XXXX street and XXXX?")
