Windows Azure - No Kidding - Scott Hanselman
I'm willing to pay the extra to not have to think about the majority of my sites resulting in cost overruns and to not have to monitor their individual prices. The free for year seems to pay lip service to this idea with a bait and switch at the end.I'll have to just keep reading to figure out what is actually possible with Azure and how that lines up with actual usage numbers to create a final price. I guess it would have to integrate into Visual Studio so that the files were accessible at development time in their current location (or local azure storage) and then URLs created at runtime.Hope this is possible it would make the experience a lot better for many of our projects.Graeme MillerMonday, 18 June 2012 13:34:47 UTCI still have a pure psychological problem with Azure.I really like the free year, but it actually makes me not register for Azure
Cover the outside surface of the glass with a one-way transparent film that permits people indoors to see out, but makes the window appear opaque on the outside. The gizzard is very thick and muscular in some species, such as ducks, gallinaceous birds (those related to chickens such as grouse, quail, and turkeys), emus, and doves
Today they attack people for recommending against their technology; tomorrow, who knows? Maybe you should add screening questions to your recruitment process to weed out people prone to toxic behaviour. If this is a conscious decision, then these companies are trying to avoid drinking the Microsoft koolaid and getting on the Microsoft upgrade bandwagon

Most languages have so much friction and awkwardness built into their design that you learn most of their feature set long before your misstep rate drops anywhere near zero. My last remaining problem was somehow to transform the dead data in this Python initializer into live objects.I considered writing code that would explicitly know about the structure of all three classes and use that knowledge to grovel through the initializer creating matching objects, but rejected that idea because new class members were likely to be added over time as the configuration language grew new features

But for a quick, one sentence answer that is easily directed at consumers, Contiuum is the marketing word of choice as it is not only new but forward looking as well. Yes, there were previous devices that tried to replicate this experience but they were limited to a few handsets and the apps were simply phone apps on a larger screen; they never gained much attention
Walden - Chapter 2
If a man should walk through this town and see only the reality, where, think you, would the "Mill-dam" go to? If he should give us an account of the realities he beheld there, we should not recognize the place in his description. Indeed, by standing on tiptoe I could catch a glimpse of some of the peaks of the still bluer and more distant mountain ranges in the northwest, those true-blue coins from heaven's own mint, and also of some portion of the village

I believe one of the main reasons to bring Safari to Windows on the first place was to simplify things to web developers seeking to port their work to the iPhone, but now iPhone and webkit are a strong platform and other engines behave on a very similar way. When will someone offer a service hosting simulators for every platform and browser , mobile or not (and not only screenshots) ? I think this is just something we need, and we will need it even more as mobile continues to expand
As the system is written, many of these so called requirements change as the business changes, technical constraints are realised, and as people see the system working, they realise it should work differently. But they can be written at a level of detail that is useful for business stakeholders to read, and are highly effective at ensuring the system is working from an end user perspective

Currently, I am unemployed and I plan on being unemployed for a really long time so this article is perfect for me since I have all the time in the world. This is because when controllers are generated in Rails they are empty by default, unless you tell it your wanted actions during the generation process. To manually define an action inside a controller, all you need to do is to define a new method inside the controller. What if a request to the server was crafted to look like a new article form submit but also included extra fields with values that violated your applications integrity? They would be 'mass assigned' into your model and then into the database along with the good stuff - potentially breaking your application or worse. We have to whitelist our controller parameters to prevent wrongful mass assignment
Announcing: Running Ruby on Rails on IIS8 (or anything else, really) with the new HttpPlatformHandler - Scott Hanselman
They all coordinate multiple Ruby processes (which in Unix, is very cheap as each process reuses memory from it's parent process upon forking - copy-on-write memory). With JRuby you will run a full Rails app (with JDBC support for SQL Server, for example) within a solid web server such as Tomcat or JBoss (Trinidad and Torque Box projects)

Even when it did support OOP, for years it was not really OOP (missing important features like static methods), so programmers got around the problems through all kinds of shenanigans like using global variables or setting a local variable using a global reference pointer. But php is getting better day by day, frameworks like laravest are getting tremendous attention, and even bringing back old php users who are dropping RoR and coming back like prodigal sons
Learning Ruby on Rails - Stack Overflow
Here are a few more Ruby screencast resources: SD Ruby - the have a bunch of videos online - I found their Rest talks SD9 and SD10 to be among the best of the intros. Rails isn't the smallest framework ever, and while there's definitely lots to learn, most of it will start to make sense if you have at least a little bit of understanding what makes it different ("special") from other languages
However, the small community of Windows Ruby users that do persist are extremely friendly, dedicated and knowledgeable - go say hi.) Note much of the advice that follows is now outdated due to the magnificent efforts of the RubyInstaller team in bringing stability, compatibility and performance to Ruby on Windows. Microsoft has released IronRuby 1.0, it's a version of Ruby that runs on the .NET platform that apparently runs 4x faster than the official Rails implementation on Windows
